Types of Entry Level Online Jobs

Freelancing

The time honored tradition of freelancing. Many people might not know this, but freelancing might be one of the oldest occupations to exist. Freelancers can put their natural talents to work. They can do what they love. Most importantly, they can make money while doing it! What’s the catch? It can be quite frustrating in the beginning. Building a portfolio is essential but in order to do this, freelancers who are just starting out must work for lower rates in order to beat out those who have experience. Rest assured that in the end, it’s worth it.

Data Entry Jobs

Data entry is another of the opportunities that can lead to high income. Anyone with a home computer and internet access can find data entry work. It requires exactly as the name implies – entering information into a database or other location. Speed and accuracy are the most essential skills for data entry. Don’t worry though. The longer a person works in this field, the faster they get. Be wary of scams though. Be sure to perform a valid check before taking on a data entry position.

Home Call Centers

This is a great opportunity for those who consider themselves a people person. Large companies are starting to outsource this work rather than hiring payroll employees because it’s a more cost effective solution. Basically, these are WAHM jobs that turn everyday people into answer centers – addressing customer’s questions and troubleshooting. The normal pay rate is based on the time spend on the phone. However, some companies pay hourly rates based on the total time available for calls. That would mean that between calls, the individual can do anything they want, so long as they are near their phone.

At Home Salesman

Companies pay people to go door-to-door and make phone calls to help sell their products. Although this side of marketing is slowly being replaced by the digital world, there are still opportunities here.

Virtual Assistant

This is great for those who have secretarial and administrative experience. What does a virtual assistant do? They are the equivalent of a secretary. The specifics of the job depends on the person or company hiring but can include:

  • Scheduling Appointments
  • Transcribing Meetings
  • Making Phone Calls
  • Sending Emails

Transcription

There is a rising need form transcribers. A lot of companies will accept newbies but these same companies also pay lower rates. Although alone, transcribing isn’t that great of an entry level job, it’s really nice in combination with other positions.

Examples of Major Companies Hiring Home Based Workers

  • 1-800 Flowers – Hiring Seasonal Order Takers
  • Apple At-Home Advisor – Hiring Customer Support for iPHones and other products.
  • CenturyLink – Telecommunications Company Hiring For Nationwide Call Center
  • U-Haul – Call Center Jobs providing customer service, reservations and roadside assistance.
